Should I Repair or Replace my Furnace?

repair or replace

A question we deal with all the time, and as much as we would like to say that there’s a clear cut answer to each situation, it`s not that easy. Many factors come into play when determining if a heating system should be replaced, or repaired: items such as warranty, inefficient equipment or future repairs.  Unlike your automobile which has an odometer that measures how much of the life expectancy has been consumed in the form of mileage, heating equipment is measured by age. If the equipment has not been properly maintained, life expectancy can be greatly compromised. So the next time you are debating if it’s a good idea to put a lot of money into your aging system you may want to consider the Energy Star philosophy.   Energy Star recommends that replacement should be considered if a heat pump, or air conditioner is more than 10 years old, a furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old, or sooner if the your system needs frequent repairs. Whenever possible, R.E. Sanders will provide repair options as well as replacement options so you, the customer, can make an informed decision.
