Having a standby generator is a good way to protect your home and family from the dreaded power outage. You can choose from portable or permanently installed. Portables have a lower initial cost, but installing a permanent generator has a number of advantages that outweigh other types.

A Standby Generator is Fully Automated with a Convenient Fuel Source

When you have a permanent standby generator installed, it is fully automated. Within a matter of seconds after a power outage, the generator will kick in and power all the appliances that you decided to back up.

Installed generators can run on the natural gas that some homes use for heating. Their underground piping and indefinite gas supply means uninterrupted power, even during the strongest storms. If you don’t have natural gas, a residential generator can run on LP gas stored in large tanks that can last a week or more, longer than almost any outage.

You Can’t Beat the Reliability & Safety

All generators need to be run periodically. Permanent generators typically have a schedule for automatic turn on to make sure everything works perfectly. If there is a problem, these cycles almost always detect it.

Portable generators were not designed to power a houseful of appliances and if you aren’t skilled with electrical powering, portables pose safety hazards. Permanently installed generators, however, do not pose these safety hazards and should be put into place by an electrical contractor who will properly size the loads and pre-wire the connections. After installation, the generator’s automatic transfer switch senses when utility power is unavailable or unstable. It then switches itself on while disconnecting utility power. When utility power returns, it reverses the process automatically and safely.

There are many good reasons to protect your home and family with a permanently installed generator. Call the professionals at RE Sanders Inc. with any questions or to schedule an installation. Or, visit our website for more details on generators.
